Hello and welcome back to a freshly squeezed 100% pure artist struggle-filled blog post, featuring sketchbook pages!
I’ve got some great pages from my scanned archives to share, I hope you are entertained by them. Looking through old drawings is such a whirlwind for me, I am amazed at the drawings but also the skill progression (and self pitying hahaha) that you can see through the years.
I experience what I will refer to as “sketchbook rage” where a sketchbook no longer has novelty for me, or I start to hate the paper or binding… so it makes me obsessed with starting a new sketchbook :p I am currently in a small sketchbook rage with my Moleskine, but I am giving my best effort to finish it before diving into another one.
It makes me consider if a sketchbook is the best way to ‘keep’ my drawings together. Some people only sketch on loose paper (which I have done a lot in the past), but it is SO difficult yo sort through stacks of paper to find a drawing you want to reference later. Granted, this sketchbook ‘issue’ is something I’ve been groaning about since I started drawing in 2015…. will we ever have a good solution? No, probably not, because like a true artist my tastes are fickle and fleeting XD
Are you a sketchbook enthusiast, or a loose sheet type? Or both?? Would love to hear your thoughts & what your ideal sketchbook is. Mine would be maybe…. a Luechtturm 1917 square sketchbook but with a slightly smoother grain on the paper.
Thanks for reading! I hope you have a wonderful day. <3
Would love your full review of notebooks/sketchbooks you’ve tried. I think mine are Pentalic brand ones. I’ve had big ones that were satisfying and my little pocket one I like. Loose leaf only ok if I can slot them in a portfolio or binder of sorts. I’m
Currently in the process of getting my child’s art together that way. I want to remember when he made them and how old he was!
Oh boy, IF ONLY they made pickle jars big enough to fully dunk into. 😆
